Scammers use American soldiers for their fake profiiles.  They can be discovered by asking a few simple questions that any US/Australian soldier could answer immediately. If he takes too long to answer, he is Googling it.

If he is an Officer, ask him what his insignia looks like.
If he truly is an American soldier then he would have been to Westpoint, ask him where he trained.
Every soldier definitely knows what type of ammunition round they use, ask him.
If he is a Marine, ask him where he did his training.
How long have has he been on tour for?

Need answers, contact your local Australian RSL  (Returned and Services League) where you will find veterans that would be happy to share their military heritage with you or USA American Legion.
